The Volunteer to Practice Media and Journalism in Germany Program is the perfect opportunity to meet and interact with people from different countries who work to help the refugees, immigrants, and local Germans in the city of Halle with a number of challenges. Engage in Germany also offers the participant the opportunity to reside with a host family during the program, as well as visit a variety of city sites. The program participants will also have plenty of opportunities to visit neighboring German cities.
Most importantly, the Volunteer to Practice Media and Journalism in Germany Program is an opportunity to build and develop your media and journalism skills. Program participants conduct video interviews, write articles describing our center’s activities, and write articles describing refugees’ lives, as well as daily life in Halle. Participants’ photography skills are also utilized in photographing the center’s activities.

Why Is Media Important for Engage in Germany?
Engage in Germany seeks to inform people worldwide about its efforts to help refugees, immigrants, and local German residents. A part of our outreach is organizing activities to bridge cultures and understanding among people, which include language exchange meetings, international food days, international evenings, movie nights, and socializing in cafes, and barbecues, to name a few.
- The organization’s activities and programs address the educational and social challenges that face refugees and immigrants in assimilating into German society, including learning German as a second language and adapting to German culture.

What Will I Be Doing in This Program?
The Volunteer to Practice Media And Journalism in Germany requires the following:
- Take pictures and videos documenting the activities, classes, and social and educational events sponsored by the center.
- Manage the social media accounts of the center (mainly Facebook and Instagram), as well as post pictures, videos, and general content on these accounts.
- Write three articles per week that focus on the following topics: Social and educational activities at our center; daily life in the city of Halle; the life of refugees in Halle and the challenges they face; and Arabic or German culture. Additional topics may be considered by the organization’s director who can provide a list of appropriate topics as well as guidance in the writing of articles.
- Conduct video interviews with locals, refugees, international volunteers, and interns regarding their experiences in our center and/or their daily lives in Halle, as well as their experiences living with a host family (when applicable).
- Creative and new video ideas are welcome. Coordination with the director is required.

Qualifications
This volunteer program is open to applicants who would like to help community members in Halle improve their English speaking skills. Volunteers do not need a university teaching or English degree to apply or participate. Although any academic degree is certainly welcomed, a degree is not required.


An applicant is required:
- To be over the age of 18;
- Must have a good attitude and be eager and open to learn;
- Must be fluent in English – native and non-native English speakers are welcome.
An applicant is NOT required to:
- Speak Arabic or German
- Have experience in teaching English
- Have any teaching certifications
Accommodation Options for the Volunteers
As a volunteer with Engage in Germany, you have three housing options in Halle, each tailored to different preferences. You can choose a shared apartment managed by the organization, offering an independent living experience alongside fellow volunteers and fostering a sense of community.
Alternatively, you may stay with an Arabic or German host family, providing an immersive experience of local culture and traditions. For those who prefer more privacy and flexibility, arranging your accommodation is also possible, with Engage offering support and resources throughout your stay.
