Why choose us? Engage in Germany in Halle (Saale) is unique for a plethora of reasons; the first among them being the Center’s dual roles as a language school and community center. After the migrant crisis of 2015, when thousands migrated to Europe to flee war and famine, Germany opened its doors and offered refugees safety within its borders. Subsequently, thousands of refugees and migrants have settled in Germany, including in the city of Halle! Since settling, refugees and migrants have opened local businesses, breathed new economic and cultural life into the city, as well as taken up roles in public service and community rejuvenation. However, despite the positives that refugees and migrants have brought to Halle, there are still unfortunate instances of discrimination.

Some of the largest barriers that refugees and migrants face in Germany can be found in education; many who wish to better their English and German language skills face discrimination in schools, denying them access to advancement, or are too busy working to support themselves. This is where Engage in Germany comes in.

Engage in Germany provides language instruction to refugees for little to no charge. This service is meant to help fill the discriminatory gap left in many schools, as well as provide critical linguist assistance to those denied it previously. Engage in Germany’s mission in Halle is to help assimilate refugees and migrants to German culture, as well as provide them additional opportunities through the acquisition of language. However, without its dedicated team of volunteers, interns, and students the Center’s mission would be impossible.
