What is the Philosophy of Writing at Engage in Germany?
When it comes to the writing process that you would be a part of during the Volunteering to Write about Germany program, you need to use language that can allow you to connect and relate to our audience, who are reading to learn more details or get a comprehensive idea about what the center offers. We believe that with this simple concept, you can write well-targeted articles. Your writing must be customized to the target audience, content-specific, and relate directly to the readers’ minds.
Engage in Germany organization believes that writing can inform internationals and those who are interested in life in Germany about the center’s educational and social activities and refugees’ lives here, and can also convey all relevant events that the center organizes. Therefore, your role in writing articles is to make the readers more enthusiastic and engaged in the work our organization is doing.
What Does This Program Entail?
This program includes the following:
- The participants will collect information from our staff, our students, international volunteers or interns, and all who are relevant to an activity or an event.
- The participant will submit two articles daily, which will be reviewed by center staff and may be revised to meet the website’s writing standards.
- The written articles must be at least 1000 words, but no more than 1,500 words.
General Volunteer Qualifications
This volunteer program is open to applicants who would like to help community members in Halle improve their English speaking skills. Volunteers do not need a university teaching or English degree to apply or participate. Although any academic degree is certainly welcomed, a degree is not required.
An applicant is required:
- To be over the age of 18;
- Must have a good attitude and be eager and open to learn;
- Must be fluent in English – native and non-native English speakers are welcome.
An applicant is NOT required to:
- Speak Arabic or German
- Have experience in teaching English
- Have any teaching certifications
Am I Eligible For This Program?
Writers must be:
- Experienced in writing and motivated to write about life in Germany and Engage in Germany’s activities.
- Participants must be fluent in English in the four language skills: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Additional languages are an advantage.
- To apply for this program, you must be between 22–70 years old. All nationalities are welcome to join the program.
- You can participate in this program for a minimum of one week and up to three months.
What Are the Benefits of the Program?
- Learn about and invest in the center by writing about the center’s activities.
- Experience the hospitality of Arabs and Arabic culture by being part of Engage in Germany’s educational, social, and community activities.
- Have the opportunity to be in the European country that has hosted the highest number of Arab refugees, mostly from Syria, and get to know their culture as well as their stories on how they fled during the war and reached Europe.
- Have the chance to visit local sites in the city of Halle and get to know its rich history.
- An accommodation– either staying with a local host family or at a dorm.
- Get 3 hours of Spoken German or Arabic (volunteer’s choice) lessons per week, with an option to add more for a fee.
- Have the chance to attend cultural evenings and several entertainment events.
- Receive a participation certificate and a letter of recommendation at the end of the program.
