Time and Duration

Engage in Germany welcomes students, English native and non-native speakers, and people from all countries who are 18 to 70 years old to join any of the Center’s volunteer, internship, and Arabic programs.

The period of participation can span anywhere from 1 to 13 weeks. For volunteers, interns, and students, Engage in Germany’s program flexibility is designed to work around their schedules, with programs being available year-round (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter) and starting and ending dates up to the participant’s choice!

Flexible Booking

At Engage in Germany, we understand that things change. As such, our programs are incredibly flexible in case you need to alter travel plans or just simply have a change of heart. As programs begin at the center year-round (with flexible start and end dates), you decide your arrival. Furthermore, you’re able to change your start date entirely free of charge if requested at least two weeks beforehand.

How Good Should My English Be?

Anyone who can understand and speak reasonable English and express themselves in English can participate in the program. These programs are for native and non-native speakers. 

Is Travel Insurance Mandatory in Germany?

Yes, this is mandatory. You are responsible for yourself if something happens to you while in Germany. That is why you must have travel insurance yourself before you leave your home country. 

Will Other Volunteers or Interns Be Present at the Center?

The number of volunteers or interns at Engage in Germany in Halle, Germany can vary depending on the season. In summer we usually have around 10 participants at the same time, and around 4 in winter.  

What Is Offered When I Volunteer or Intern in Germany? 

Volunteering and internship programs in Germany offered by Engage in Germany will allow you to learn Arabic or German. You will get three hours a week of language lessons. Not only this but you will also be involved in the Center’s social and community activities in the city of Halle. 

You will also have the chance to meet refugees who come from various countries around the world, talk to them, and get to know about their situation, how they have adapted to the German lifestyle, and what kinds of challenges they face daily.  Moreover, you will be guided on a tour of the city of Halle where you can get to know more about the rich history of the city and the most visited places.

Your safety and security are our prime concerns during your volunteering or internship program at Engage in Germany. We have many procedures and systems to ensure you have the support you need to enjoy your trip with peace of mind.

Our Center staff are available to help and will be on-hand to make sure you settle in well at your accommodation and placement. If you encounter any problems, they will be available to help at any time.

Summer Internships – Volunteer Abroad

While the volunteer program in Germany is available all year, the Summer is the most advantageous and exciting time to apply. With a team from all around the world, Engage in Germany is rife with students throughout May, June, July, and August, making it the perfect time to Intern after graduation.

The program includes a language course (3 hours of German per week), responsibilities as an English Teacher, housing, logistic help, breakfast 4 days a week, and an immersive experience in our community in Halle. The program can last between 1-13 weeks- as you decide for yourself. Winter Volunteer Programs

Is Halle Saale A Good Place For Volunteering Or Doing An Internship In Germany? 

Yes, you might never have heard of it but the city has a lot to offer. The city of Marten-Luther and George Handel and many others would offer you more than what you think. Halle is a city located in the southern region of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Halle is an economic and educational center in eastern Germany. The University of Halle-Wittenberg for example is the largest in Saxony-Anhalt and one of the oldest universities in Germany.

Halle has an elegant city center, many green areas, and many narrow streets where architecture has been preserved. There are many beautiful places along the Saale River which runs through the city. In addition, Halle is one of the cities that received a large number of refugees in Germany. This makes the city more diverse with different cultures. Not only this but the university in Halle is one of the educational destinations for foreign students to study in various educational fields.  

How Much Are The Fees And Duration For A Volunteer Or Internship Program? 

Volunteer programs can last from one-week minimum up to three months and fees start from 250 Euro a week. The internship programs can last from one month minimum up to three months and the fees start from 1500 Euro a month. 

What Do The Fees Cover? 

The paid fees cover the following: participation cost, daily breakfast, accommodation either in a host family or a shared room apartment, three hours of Arabic or German classes per week, and participation in the Center’s social and community activities. The Center will also arrange visits to historical sites and other sites of interest in the city of Halle. 

Is There Any Age Limit? Who Can Apply? 

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 75 is welcome to apply to the center’s volunteer or internship programs in Germany. However, those who are under 18 can also apply if they are accompanied by one of their parents or legal guardians or if they have consent from the aforementioned people to apply and come to Germany. 

Is There Any Deadline To Apply? 

Nope! Engage in Germany is very flexible when it comes to times and dates. You can apply any time within the year but the earlier the better.

Do I Need A Visa To Come To Germany? 

It depends. Regarding the issue of needing a visa to enter Germany or to join one of the internships offered by Engage in Germany, you need to be aware of the following: 

  • If you are coming from a European country that has signed the Schengen agreement, then you do not need a visa to enter Germany. 
  • For those who come from countries that are a part of this program, you are permitted to stay in Germany for up to three months.
  • All other travelers will need to apply for a Schengen visa to enter Germany. 
  • This visa will allow you to enter and stay in Germany for a maximum period of 3 months (90 days). 
  • It is important to note that this visa prohibits visa-holders from getting a job (even as a freelance) during their stay.

Do I Need Either To Speak Arabic Or German To Apply?

Nope! During your time in Halle, you will be provided with three hours a week of either German or Arabic lessons with one of our teachers. This means that doing an internship or volunteer work in Germany at Engage in Germany will give you the chance to learn a new language and also practice it with the locals, students, and family members. All that you need to know is to speak English so that you communicate with the center’s staff, students, and other international volunteers and interns.

What Does A Day At The Center Look Like? 

The daily life of our interns at the center looks like the following: 

  • Breakfast at 10:00 am where all participants sit at one table. The breakfast is a great chance for our participants to get to know each other and have a fun time before their day starts. 
  • After that, the participants start to do their tasks which include the chosen program. After that participants have their lunch where either they cook themselves at the center or they go out and eat outside at one of the nearby restaurants. 
  • After lunch, participants join their Arabic or German classes with one of our qualified teachers till the center closes at 6 pm.
